SUNDERBANI, May 20: The people from village Thanda Pani blocked Jammu- Poonch highway and held protest against Public Health Engineering (PHE) department for its failure to ensure adequate supply of drinking water.
The protesting villagers also broke empty earthen pots on highway to lodge their protest.
The villagers alleged that for the last about one month people of Thanda Pani area couldn’t get proper water supply due to negligence of concerned PHE employees. The mater was taken up with senior officials at Sunderbani and Nowshera but there was no improvement at all.
Annoyed over the attitude of the concerned PHE staff, a large number of people of the area led Naib Sarpanch Thanda Pani, Tersem Singh (Happy) blocked Jammu- Poonch highway and started protest against the PHE department. They were demanding transfer of careless employees of PHE department from Thanda Pani dug well/ water station.
The villagers Jasbir Singh, Tarlok Singh, Sanjay Kumar and Mohd Anvar alleged that due to callous approach of the PHE department, the water supply has been affected at Thanda Pani village, Chavaria and adjoining hamlets forcing the people to come out on the roads against the PHE department. They disrupted movement of vehicles on the road for about 40 minutes. Later, with the intervention of police, the road was cleared.
Panchayat Lower Bhajwal of Sunderbani is also facing similar situation. The villagers alleged that due to callous attitude of water pumping station staff, this problem is taking place for the last few weeks.
