JAMMU, Oct 19: Former minister and senior National Conference leader Ajay Sadhotra has said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir are pinning hope on Prime Minister for restoration of statehood.
In a press statement here Sadhotra said the people of Jammu and Kashmir are pinning their hope on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Statehood instead of Union Territory during his proposed address at Sardar Patel Statue in Gujrat on October 31, 2019.
He said BJP Government’s decision of reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir State dividing it into two Union Territories has badly hurt the people especially youth. The people feel BJP has pushed them towards wall and it has led to alienation. Level of alienation in Kashmir is already very high, said National Conference senior leader.
It is high time and in the National interest to put check on fast growing alienation by healing the hearts and minds of the people of Jammu and Kashmir by retaining status of the State of Jammu and Kashmir instead of Union Territory, Sadhotra added.
“Did statehood ever stopped the Central and State Government to take effective measures to combat terrorism and improve situation in respective States,” Sadhotra asked.
He pointed out that Central Government and State Governments of the state of Chhattisgarh and the state of Jammu and Kashmir are effectively fighting terrorism. It is not necessary that terrorism can be fought only when it is Union Territory as being told by BJP leadership in and outside the Parliament then what is the need of to downgrade Jammu and Kashmir State to Union Territory is not digestable and understandable. It will create atmosphere of trust deficit.
The people of the State are pinning hope on Prime Minister for statehood. In view of slogan of Prime Minister “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas-Sab Ka Vishwas”. “Saath and Vishwas of the people is imperative for “Peace and Vikas” and in J&K can be obtained only by retaining the status of Statehood for Jammu and Kashmir State, he said.
