People of N Kashmir have negated militancy: GoC

SRINAGAR, Jan 29: General Officer Commanding (GOC) counter-insurgency Kilo Force, Major General A K Singh, today said that Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) is trying to extend its influence in North Kashmir but assured that Army is alert to foil their designs.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function at Lolab in Kupwara today, Major General Singh said that Army is fully prepared to tackle JeM and aware about their movement. “Militants would definitely like to extend their area of influence here but North Kashmir has been generally peaceful. Yes, the militant outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad is trying hard to gain ground but I assure everyone that they would not be successful in their endeavors. We are fully prepared and aware about their movements and activities”, he said.
Asked about the scholar turned militant Manan Wani, the GOC said: “We are trying our best to get him back. He is an educated youth and his energy need to be channelized in a positive direction to bring peace and stability in the region.”
The Army Commander said that people of North Kashmir have negated militancy. “The people of North Kashmir have negated militancy. People here are peace loving and it’s because of these people we are enjoying peace and stability here. We will continue to enjoy peace in future as well.”
