MENDHAR, Oct 14: People are irked over the dilapidated condition of the road from Mendhar to shelling affected Bhimber Gali (BG).
The condition of the road is so bad that most of the motorists have stopped to ply their vehicles on this stretch. The road at many places including Mendhar, Dhargloon TV Tower, Kotan, and BG Main is dotted with potholes posing risk of accidents.
The locals said the General Reserved Engineers Force (GREF) has failed to undertake even minor repairs of this vital road.
The local panchayat collects toll tax from the vehicles passing through the road maintained by the GREF, they said.
“Government should stop collection of toll tax till the road in repaired”, said Civil Society members namely Ashish Malik, Balram Sharma, Rajat Kapoor, Abdul Hamid and Imtiyaz Ahmed.
“Stressing for immediate repair of the road, the Civil Society members said if the GREF failed to repair the road, they will launch an agitation.
During shelling from Pakistan side or in delivery cases, people have to face tough time while communicating on this road.
Despite assurance from the concerned Member Parliament, nothing concrete has been done till date.
The residents have appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to direct the concerned authorities to repair the road, so that people have some sigh of relief.
