JAMMU, May 9: The parents and relatives of the murdered girl along with residents of Valmiki Colony Gandhi Nagar held protest against Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu for raising questions over the character of the girl Sheetal, wife of Vijay Gill, who was brutally murdered by her husband in Bahu Plaza area few days back, here today.
A large number of people including parents and relatives of the deceased girl Sheetal, resident of Valmiki Colony assembled at Valmiki Colony and held protest against the Jammu and Kashmir Police for doubting the character of the murdered girl.
Amid slogans against SSP Jammu, hundreds of protesters including women and children blocked the vehicular movement on the road by burning tyres and allied items.
While talking to media persons, one of the protesting ladies said that the statement issued to the media houses that the character of the murdered girl was not good is not justified and SSP should revert his statement and initiate strict action against the culprit Vijay Gill and his family members.
“If our girl was not having good character, the murderer should gave her divorce or should drop her in her mother’s house, why he killed her”, she said and demanded strict action against the culprit, who according to the protesters, stabbed the girl seven times before fleeing from the spot.
“The statement issued by SSP Jammu is highly condemnable. Before issuing such statement, SSP should think what he is going to speak”, one of the protestor Jung Bahadur said, adding that SSP should revert his statement, should initiate strict action against the murderer and his parents if involved.
“If SSP fails to revert her statement, we will knock the doors of the court for justice”, he added.
On getting information, SDPO South Dr Sunniya Ashoor Wani rushed to the spot, but failed to pacify the protesters. “We want SSP to visit here till then the protest will continue”, the protesters stated.
Later, SP South Vinay Sharma also reached the spot and pacified the protesters by assuring them of fair probe into the incident.
On the assurance, the protesters dispersed and vehicular movement was restored on the road.
When contacted, SP South Vinay Kumar told the EXCELSIOR that, “SSP just quoted the statement of the arrested accused Vijay Gill and not gave any statement of his own”. “We pacified the protesters and later they lifted the protest”, SP informed.
