JAMMU, Mar 3: Locals staged a demonstration here and tried to corner the SHO Janipur office after they noticed a sacrilegious activity in the locality.
Sources said around 4 PM today, some locals noticed carcass of an animal at Shivalikpuram locality in Sector 6 of Upper Roop Nagar, Janipur, Jammu.
Thereafter, they gathered in number and resorted to sloganeering in the form of a protest, which marched towards Janipur Police Station, where the protestors stopped the vehicular movement on the New Plot-Janipur road, seeking stern action against the culprits.
The police tried to pacify the protestors with the assertion that they will look into the CCTV footage of the area to know what exactly happened in the area but the protestors claimed that police have a history of shielding the accused in such cases and that they will call off the protest only after seeing the accused punished under the relevant law of the land.
Later, SP North and SP Rural along with SDPOs of the area and SHOs reached at the spot and assured the protestors that they will get the post-mortem of the animal conducted through a team of veterinary staff to ensure the arrest of the accused besides proper analysing of the CCTV footage, the protestors agreed to call off their protest.
Meanwhile, police have registered an FIR number 32/2024 under section 295A of the IPC against unidentified people and started further investigation into the matter.
