KATHUA, Feb 4: Former minister and senior Congress leader, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma today alleged that people from far-flung areas have been deprived of basic facilities.
Addressing public meetings at Lahiri, Jothana, Boura and other places of Billawar constituency, Congress leader alleged that most of the remote areas were deprived of basic facilities like drinking water, power supply, health care and proper surface communication.
Sharma criticised the previous Govt and local recent MLA from Billawar for deliberately neglecting the areas. He said during his tenure in 2013- 2014 an amount of Rs 1.5-2 crores was sanctioned for dug well each at Lahri and Joothana under Water Supply Scheme to cater the demand of drinking water to the people of the areas but in last four years not even a inch progress was made regarding the same. He said same is the case with Higher Secondary School Joothana, High School Lahri, High School Boura whose sanction was made in 2014 but till now all of these are non-functional.
Adding further he said it pains to see that 25 km long Ghati to Balasundri road via Spleen Morh which was sanctioned under PMGSY in 2014 is still seeing way for getting work started. He said on Road project from Pallan Morh to Lehri -Tikri which was sanctioned 5 years ago under State sector, no work was started on the same.
The people apprised the former MLA of worst condition of roads, shortage of ration especially sugar, discrimination in allotments of funds in various schemes, non-release of funds for widow /old age pension. People also alleged that from past more than a year payments has not been made against the work executed under MNREGA.
Several locals Sarpanchs/ Panchs also spoke on the occasion.
