JAMMU, May 20: The people putting up in various quarantine centers in Jammu continue to face problems due to lack of adequate facilities and space as well as delay in release of test results.
Some people quarantined at Yog Ashram, Gole Gujral since May 15 said that though their samples for testing were taken on the same day but till date the results are awaited. The inmates who included students especially females are perturbed for delay in test reports. Pooja one of the inmates who reached here on May 15 morning said that they were told that the results will come within 48 hours and at the most they will be relieved within 72 hours but now six days have passed and the test results are still awaited, she added.
Isha another inmate said that the people who took lead in protest at quarantine centre yesterday were allowed to leave yesterday while others were told that their tests are still awaited. She said about 50 people mostly students were quarantined here on May 15 and later more people were brought here. “We apprehend that we will get infected here as there are no separate wash rooms and toilets”. Moreover some old ladies are suffering from chronic diseases and their problem will aggravate if they have to undergo such a trauma for more days, she added.
She said if they (authorities) were not sure of test results will come in a time frame they should have informed people before hand so that we would have not left our places where we were putting up.
Another student who too came from Delhi and is putting up at Teachers Bhawan, Gandhi Nagar Quarantine Centre since May 15 also alleged that the inmates are awaiting for test results for a week now. Meenakshi Sharma a student said that the officials’ incharge of Quarantine Centre are not giving any satisfactory reply and we don’t know for how many days we have to bear this ordeal.
Moreover some inmates who preferred for paid quarantine and were put in some hotels of Jammu also alleged that they are awaiting the test results for last six days now. Soraw Razdhan who along with two more members of his family are putting at Hotel Red Rose here since last Friday said that they have been told that the test results will come within hours and you will be allowed to leave for your respective homes. “We had preferred paid quarantine as we were told that you had to be there for two to three days but now one week is about to pass and still the tests are awaited”, he added.
Razdhan said when this morning we asked the authorities that when the reports will come we were told that samples have been misplaced and we were taken to Gandhi Nagar Hospital for retesting later and God knows when the reports of the same will come. He demanded that no payment should be deducted from the people who preferred for paid quarantine for more than three days because delay was due to the mismanagement of the authorities.
However when contacted the Director Health Services Jammu, Dr Reenu Sharma said that she does not know why they were taken for re-testing. She said the paid quarantine is being monitored by the district administration.
Shashi Sharma Soodan HoD Microbiology, GMC said her Department is only conducting tests for the samples which reach there and it submits the report after putting the samples to test.
