SAMBA, Apr 2: -Irate people of Vijaypur today held a strong demonstration and blocked the Jammu -Pathankot National Highway in protest against the death of a person in road accident alleging foul play in the same.
As per reports, one person died after he was hit by a car in Vijaypur area of Samba district on March 30.
Family members and relatives of the deceased protested and blocked Jammu -Pathankot National Highway at Main Chowk, Vijaypur today. According to the information received, Sahil Chaudhary, son of Kishan Chand, resident of Vijaypur, was beaten and thrown into an injured condition by some youth from Supwal village on March 24, and the locals brought him to Vijaypur Accidental Hospital for treatment. Father of the injured, Kishan Chand went to see his son in the hospital on March 30 and when he came back he met with an accident with a car. He was shifted to GMC Jammu in critical condition. On hearing this news, his relatives and residents of Vijaypur were outraged. They alleged that the police did not even report about the injured Sahil Chaudhary and did not arrest the culprits. When the injured son came to know that his father had passed away and protests were going on, he was brought to protest site at Vijaypur Chowk and placed with his father’s body on his insistence which caused a long traffic jam.
The protestors shouted slogans against the police. Sensing the gravity of the situation , the Vijaypur police arrested all three accused namely Gourav Sharma, son of Surinder Sharma of Old Vijaypur, Akshay, son of Kala of Gagore Vijaypur and Vikas Choudhary, son of Yashpal of Supwal. The administration however failed to open the National Highway as there was a long jam on one side. Later, on the assurance from Additional Deputy Commissioner Samba, protesters dispersed and National Highway was restored for vehicular traffic.
