KATHUA, Feb 14: The irate people today held massive demonstrations at Barnoti near Kathua and Jatwal in Samba district and blocked the Jammu-Pathankote National Highway in protest against the water scarcity in their localities.
The people living around Barnoti in Kathua district today held a strong demonstration and blocked the NH at Barnoti for two hours in protest against the water scarcity in the area. Later the road blockade was lifted on the intervention of civil and police authorities who assured the protestors that the problem will be solved immediately.
The people said that over 30 pump stations in Kathua district have become defunct resulting into the water scarcity in various parts of the district.
The irate residents of Jatwal near Samba also held a massive demonstration and blocked the National Highway in protest against the PHE Department for its failure in restoring the water pump which had developed a snag some time back resulting into water scarcity in the area.
As the traffic was paralyzed on NH, the SHO Ghagwal took personnel interest and brought the pump station which was lying for repairs in a workshop in his own vehicle to restore water supply to the area. On his action people lifted the blockade of the Highway.
Meanwhile, the irate residents of Jatwal locked the Mechanical Division PHE Kathua in protest against the water scarcity in the area and held a massive demonstration there.
