Peerzada seeks Pandits’ vote to strengthen secular values

JAMMU, Dec 7: Maintaining that Congress is a history which has played a great role in strengthening secular and socialist values in the country, Minister of Haj and Auqaf and Floriculture, Peerzada Mohammed Sayed today cautioned the people against the divisive forces.
Addressing an election meeting of Kashmiri migrants of his Kokernag Constituency here today, Peerzada appealed the Pandit brethren to maintain the age -old traditions and for fostering the inter community bonds they should vote for Congress.
He said Congress has played a historical role while recalling its sacrifices in Quit India movement and as well as after the independence. He said those who accuse Congress leadership should remember that Pt. Jawahar LaL Nehru laid a strong foundation for India to make it self reliant and a progressive nation.
Peerzada without naming any party cautioned the people against the divisive forces and said that Congress is wedded to the principle of secularism and Kashmiri Pandits have always championed for it.
He announced that if elected for third consecutive term this time, he will earmark 25 percent of his CDF for welfare of the displaced people of his Constituency and take all necessary steps for renovation of temples and shrines of minority Pandits in the Constituency.
He said that he will take up the issue of backward certificates vigorously so that the people hailing from backward areas are not deprived of its benefits.
He said secularism is a tradition of Kashmiris and they will never compromise on its principles as Muslims and Pandits of Valley struggled a lot to maintain brotherhood.
He also recalled the long association of Pandits with Peerzada family and late Congress leader Peer Hussam-ud-Din and expressed the hope this bond will continue for years to come.
The PCC secretary Hira Lal Pandita, Ghulam Mohammed Mir, Bansi Lal Raina, Bushan Lal Hangloo, Maharaj Krishan Pandita, Piaray Lal Pandita, A K Goja, Veer Ji Bhat and others were present in the meeting.
The migrants also highlighted their various problems and demanded that they be given benefits of NAREGA and Sarav Shiksha Abhiyan Schemes.
