JAMMU, Nov 10: Panchayat Empowerment Committee Jammu and Kashmir has castigated the Coalition Government for not fully empowering Panchayat of the State and implementing the 73rd Amendment and 74th Amendment for local bodies.
Addressing a press conference, convener of PEC and Sarpanch Bagla-Raya, Khajur Singh accused the Government of not fully empowering the Panchayati Raj System under three tires by conducting the elections of Block Developmental Councils and Planning and District Development Boards in spite of lapse of two and half years of Panchayat elections.
He also demanded that an allotment of Rs 10 lakh announced by the Government for each Panchayat be directly deposited into the account of each Halqa Panchayat to accelerate the pace of developmental activities for the amelioration of the lot of the public.
“So for, the Government has played a gimmick of fraud and illusion with the Sarpanchs and Panchs and they are being only used for governmental functions whereas the duties of the Sarpanchs and Panchs are to accelerate the development for the general public,” he alleged.
Mr Singh also demanded that the members of the Panchayati Adalats constituted under rule-48 of Panchayati Act be also given honorarium for the efficient working of Panchayati Raj System.
To highlight these demands and foster justice to the PRIs, a convention of Panchs and Sarpanchs of this province will be held at Jammu on December 1, next month and similar convention of Kashmir province will also be held at a suitable time in Valley, the PEC leader announced.
He also appreciated the role of Sarpanch Prikshit Singh for raising his voice for the legitimate rights of Sarpanchs and Panchs when Rahul Gandhi was speaking at Jammu.
Among other who participated in the press conference include Sarpanch Sham Singh, Sarpanch Hari Singh, Sarpanch Ashfaq Rana and Sarpanch Prikshit Singh.
