SRINAGAR, June 22: Saying that peace is imperative for the sustained development of the State, the Speaker, Legislative Assembly Mubarak Gul today said that no nation can develop unless there was permanent peace and tranquillity.
The Speaker was addressing at a function organized by the J&K Rural Development Society (J&K RDS) at Uri in Baramulla District.
He said that the Government has launched several welfare schemes for upliftment and improving the living standards of weaker sections of the society. He sought people’s cooperation for implementing these programmes and policies of the Government on ground. He asked the RDS to aware general masses about the programmes and policies of the Government so that the maximum people can avail benefit of these welfare schemes.
Recalling the slogan of Sher-i–Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah “Hindu, Muslim, Sikh Itihaad”, Mr. Gul said that late leader’s contribution in strengthening the bond of communal harmony and amity in the State would be remembered for ever.
Later, the Speaker visited Kaman Aman Setu and took stock of the facilities being provided at the post.
Appreciating the initiative taken by the Prime Minister of India for inviting Prime Minister of Pakistan on his oath ceremony, Mr. Gul said that this will go a long way in carrying forward the peace process. He appealed both the countries for issuing free passes to the children living across the Line of Actual Control for their visit to both the parts of the State. He called for making the process of issuing Visa easy.
Ex-Member Parliament Abdul Rashid Shaheen also spoke on the occasion and highlighted the achievements registered by the present Government. He asked the people to come forward and take advantage of the welfare schemes launched by the Government.
Assistant Labour Commissioner, Baramulla also briefed the Speaker about the measures taken by the Department for the Welfare of Labourers and Construction Workers.
Among others, Executive Members of J&K RDS including Dr. Sajad Shafi, President Labour Union Baramulla Mohammad Ramzan Sheikh and district and other tehsil officers of Baramulla present on the occasion.
