PDP won’t allow exploitation of youth: Tak

KISHTWAR, Apr 22: Castigating the National Hydroelectric Power Corporation (NHPC) for exploitation of unemployed youth of Chenab valley, MLC Firdous Tak today said that PDP will not allow exploitation of the youth and is fighting for their right.
“Resentment is brewing among people against the discrimination meted out to the region as power projects have benefited the company and the Central Government, which are exploiting the natural resources of Chenab valley leaving a devastating effect on the environment but in return denying the region its due share”, he said.
Tak was speaking during a one day convention organized by Chenab Valley Power Projects Workers Union, where he was invited as chief guest. He said for years locals are being engaged on contractual basis while outsiders are being given preference in permanent jobs. “This is totally unacceptable. Locals should be given preference in employment in new power projects being executed”, he said.
The MLC called upon people of Kishtwar to stay united and fight for their rights as for decades the region has been neglected when it comes to development. He sought cooperation and support of people to realize the dream of PDP leadership to develop the Chenab valley and use its natural resources for the economic upliftment of population.
He said that the opposition National Conference and Congress were today trying to project themselves as the well wishers of people by raising one issue or the other. “The fact is that the prestigious projects in hydel and road sectors have only benefitted the leaders of these two parties. The people know how NC and Congress leaders filled their coffers at the cost of the general masses”, he added.
