JAMMU, Aug 27: Expressing serious concern over disturbing escalation of cease-fire violations on the Line of Control (LoC) and International Border (IB), People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today emphasized the need of maintaining spirit of the cease-fire all along the border at any cost. Party appealed political leadership of both India and Pakistan to act with wisdom to control further escalation of tension on the border.
In a meeting, which was convened today under the chairmanship of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed in connection with the preparations of Lok Sabha elections, PDP leader said that peace on the borders was in the interest of the people of Jammu and Kashmir because they bear maximum brunt of the hostility between the two countries.
Speakers said that the ceasefire, which was announced on the border by the former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee in the year 2003, had brought positives changes in lives of the common people in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The ceasefire all along the border from Kathua to Kargil had proved to be a very important event not only for the two countries but also for the people in all the regions of Jammu & Kashmir”, they said.
“Instead of allowing all gains of ceasefire to go waste, political leadership of both India and Pakistan must accelerate the process of peace and reconciliation”, they emphasized adding, “sub-continent’s security and stability would largely depend on how the leadership of India and Pakistan would behave in the given situation”.
