Speaking to reporters, PDP leader Waheed Para said the party, under the directions of PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, has submitted a bill for the regularization of daily wagers and casual labourers. “This bill should be implemented permanently to provide job security to thousands of workers who have been struggling for years,” he said.
The second bill focuses on tackling alcohol and drug abuse, which Para described as a growing social issue in Kashmir. “We are working to regulate alcohol and address drug addiction, which is affecting our youth. A crime-free society and women’s safety demand strict measures,” he said.
The third bill aims to counter the ongoing demolition drives and ensure land rights for people living on state-owned properties, including State Land, Khai Charai, Shamilat, and Nazool. “People are losing their homes as bulldozers continue to raze properties. We will push for ownership rights to safeguard residents from forced evictions,” he said.
Para urged all political parties, including the National Conference, to support these bills beyond political and religious lines. “Employment, shelter, and social stability concern everyone, regardless of their political or religious affiliations,” he said.
Addressing concerns about rising unemployment and its link to drug abuse, Para stressed that regulating alcohol and curbing drug use would help create a safer and more stable society. “If we do not act now, we risk making Kashmir landless and homeless. The right to shelter is fundamental, and we will continue our efforts to address these critical issues,” he said.
