PDP Sarpanch shot at

SRINAGAR, Dec 1: Militants this evening fired at and critically injured People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Sarpanch in South Kashmir district of Shopian, even as security has been intensified after last night’s killing of National Conference (NC) Sarpanch in the same area.
Militants shot at a Sarpanch, Shiraz Ahmad Bhat son of Abdul Rehman Bhat at Shiganpora, in Zainapora area of Shopian district this evening. Reports said that two militants fired at him a volley of bullets leaving him in a pool of blood. Militants fled after carrying out the attack. Bhat was immediately removed to Pulwama sub-district hospital where from he was shifted to Srinagar.
Police, CRPF and army officials visited the spot and security forces have launched massive searches against the militants responsible for the attack.
This is second attack in last 24 hours. Last night militants shot dead a National Conference Sarpanch Mohammad Sultan Bhat in Shopian district. Although Shopian is not going to polls tomorrow, it shares its boundary with Kulgam district where polling will be held tomorrow.
The security was tightened across Kashmir after last night’s killing. A senior police officer said that the security has been fine tuned after militant attacks.
Additional 220 companies of paramilitary security personnel and police has been deployed for the second phase of polling tomorrow in the two districts of the Valley.
After grenade attack in Srinagar and killing of Sarpanch police and CRPF have established naka around Kashmir to prevent militants from disrupting the polls.
