Srinagar, Feb 18: Senior People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leader and Education Minister Altaf Bukhari, who was sworn-in yesterday, termed his party a family and said they will resolve the “small issues” – referring to crises after tendering of resignations by two top PDP Ministers – within the ‘family’.
After being inducted as Minister in Mehbooba Mufti’s Cabinet, Bukhari told reporters here today: “A Minister is a Minister irrespective of the portfolio and it is the collective responsibility of all the Ministers to keep the spirit of democracy up. The Minister might be held accountable for only one area but he is part of everything.”
He said the PDP is ‘like a family wherein members are bound to have small issues but despite the problems the family stays together’. “The tensions within the party are small issue in the family and will be settled within the family,” he said.
Meanwhile, Bukhari vowed to bring positivity in Education sector of the State. He further said he has just taken charge and has not reviewed functioning of the Department but he would like everyone to shun all the negativity and think positively about education from today.
Bukhari was speaking to reporters here after a function on high-density apple plantation scheme presided over by the Chief Minister. Bukhari, during the tenure of late Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, was holding portfolio of PWD (R&B) but was dropped by Mehbooba Mufti after she became the Chief Minister.
