JAMMU, Sept 23: Observing that the State of Jammu and Kashmir is prone to natural calamities, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today called for effective measures to meet emergent situations so as to minimize human and property losses in case of any possible catastrophe.
Addressing a meeting of PDP workers held here today, the party candidate for Jammu East, Bharat Chowdhary said that despite the fact that Tawi river was prone to floods in Monsoon Season, hardly any effort was made by the Government to minimize the losses.
The meeting was jointly chaired by District President RK Bali and senior party functionary and candidate for Kishtwar Assembly Segment, Firdous Tak.
Firdous Tak said as the State is prone to the natural calamities, there is urgent need to not only frame an effective disaster management policy but also to ensure that State machineries at the district and tehsil level have the requisite infrastructure and facilities to meet such eventualities.
