JAMMU, Jan 22: The employees and workers of State Power Development Department (PDD) and Power Development Corporation (PDC) will observe two days strike on January 30 and 31.
A spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Electric Employees Union said that as a part of first phase of the agitation, the Union has decided to observe two days’ strike against the move of the Government to go for privatization of the department and PDC by initiating process of unbundling. They termed it as one sided decision and said that career of thousands of employees will become uncertain.
The spokesman said that all the unions and associations of the Electric employees have decided to launch this mass agitation from common platform in support of their common cause.
Meanwhile, Electric Department Linemen & Workers Union while supporting the move urged upon the higher authorities to provide compensation to the linemen who were electrocuted in different mishaps while on duty. Union members Tara Chand and Vijay Gupta said that since 1994, nearly 300 such workers have fallen victims and many of them were not provided relief/ compensation. They sought intervention of Governor into the matter.
