JAMMU, Aug 10: Continuing drive against the power theft, Power Development Department today disconnected about 140 illegal connections in different parts of Jammu.
Reports said that on the directions of Executive Engineer, EM&RE Division-III, Sanjay Sharma, a team of the Power Development Department carried out inspections in Nitco Lane, Rama Lane, Uno Lane, Patel Nagar, Udhaywala, Muthi and Main Road Roop Nagar and disconnected about 140 illegal connections. Besides service lines, the team also seized cooking heaters.
The PDD has warned those consuming power illegally to get proper connections from the department failing which action would be taken against them.
When contacted, Executive Engineer Sanjay Sharma said, “the State is already loosing huge revenue because of power thefts as such the inspection drive in the areas under my jurisdiction would be a regular exercise”, adding “it becomes the responsibility of each and every citizen to get proper connection from the department and pay tariff as per actual consumption”.
“Because of the illegal connections even the genuine people are suffering immensely as because of burden being put by the illegal connections on the power infrastructure everybody faces the curtailments”, he said and appealed the people to get their illegal connections regularized.
