PDD disconnects 131 connections in single day, Rs 60 lakh recovered

JAMMU, Sept 4: Electric Maintenance and Rural Electrification Division-II, Gandhi Nagar and Division-III, Rehari of Power Development Department (PDD) launched a massive power disconnection drive in both rural as well as urban areas of Jammu district against power defaulters.
During the drive, electricity supply of major industrial installations and commercial establishments including big hotels were disconnected by the department, besides domestic and commercial connections having failed to pay their long pending bills worth lakhs of rupees were also disconnected under the said drive.
To name a few M/s Tawi Industries, M/s Mengi Hi Tech, M/s Singla Cables, M/s Bahu Cold Storage, Ice Cream, New KC Cold Storage, KC Cold Storage Ice Factory, Govind Cold Storage, M/s Omega Tyre Trading, Lakshmi Company, Shanker Fruit Company, Chunni Lal Vaid, Ritz Manor, Inderjeet Singh, son of Deomander Singh, Ward Number 6, New Basti, RS Pura (atta chakki), Shastri Memorial School, RS Pura, Blossom School, RS Pura, Natha Ram Ice Cream Factory, Main Riad RS Pura and Raj Kumar, son of Babbu Ram of RS Pura (saw mill) are also among the revenue defaulters having huge pending bills against their installations whose power supply was disconnected during the today’s drive. The power supply 131 electricity connections of domestic, commercial and industrial categories of consumers having total outstanding power dues of Rs 6 crore were disconnected during the today’s drive.
The affected consumers whose disconnections were effected immediately started approaching the department and some of them immediately deposited their electricity dues to circumvent prolonged disconnection, which resulted in revenue recovery of around Rs 60 lakh in single day. However, the department has taken a firm stand that electricity supply of such power defaulters will be restored only after examining their cases as per J&K State Electricity Regulations. It has been conveyed that such disconnection drives will now be a regular feature and electricity supplies of those drawing electricity illegally or not paying their bills will be disconnected.
The disconnections were done by various teams headed by AEEs Sardari Lal, Rajeev Kaul, Manjeet Singh, Ajay Pal, Anil Abrol, Avneet Gupta and Navdeep Arora under the supervision of  Sanjay Sharma, Executive Engineer, EMRE-II & EMRE-III, Jammu, who also happens to be the Nodal Officer of the ongoing enforcement drive in Jammu Province.
Meanwhile, the enforcement drive is also being carried out meticulously in the entire Jammu Province and in merely two month’s period, around 23806 inspections have been conducted and a fine of 2.5 crores has been imposed on the defaulters which are being recovered through their monthly electricity bills.
