PDD casual labourers’ dharna enters 6th day

JAMMU, Dec 11: The dharna of need based workers and casual labourers of PDD in front of Chief Engineer M&RE Office entered the 6th day here today.
The call for the agitation has been given by the All J&K Casual Labourers Union led by Mohammed Shafi Bhat and Shiv Kumar provincial president.
The protestors while referring to the notification no 265 dated 5-09-2012 said that the list of casual labourers etc will be published in the local dailies has not been published till date as the concerned AEEs and Executive Engineers have not cleared the verification process of casual laborers and need based workers.
The protestors said that Chief Secretary, J&K promised in the month of April 2013 that the pending wages of  the casual labourers etc amounting to Rs 6.50 crores will be released as funds in favour of need based / casual labourers have been sanctioned by the Government but nothing has been done so far in this regard with the result the workers were left with no option but to resort to agitation.
They said that the authorities have only given hollow assurances and till date the papers were not submitted by the concerned X-Ens to Chief Engineer.
They said last year 75 casual labourers lost their lives while performing duty and 150 of the causal labourers became handicapped after receiving electric shocks.
The dharna among others was addressed by vice president of the Union Akhil Sharma, Jammu province president Shiv Kumar, vice president, Sham Lal and general secretary Mohinder Paul Sharma etc.
