JAMMU, July 13 : Press Club of Jammu handed over a cheque of Rs two lakh to family of a journalist and chief editor of Urdu daily under group accidental insurance scheme.
President of Press Club of Jammu, Ashwini Kumar, today handed over cheque of Rs 2 lakh to Sarita Gupta wife of Sanjay Kishore Gupta, Chief Editor, Urdu Daily Pabandi under Personal Accidental Insurance Scheme.
Sanjay Kishore Gupta, a senior member of the Press Club, was injured in a fatal road accident near Chinore on February 15, 2014.
Gupta was hit by a school bus and was shifted to Delhi in a critical condition. After battling for life for four days, he breathed his last on February 19, 2014.
Since all journalist members of Press Club of Jammu are covered under Personal Accidental Insurance Scheme necessary paper work was completed to extend a helping hand to the members of the deceased family by the management committee.
Several senior member of the Press club along with Management committee members including General Secretary Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Ajay Bachloo, Deepak Khajuria, Dinesh Mahajan, Surjeet Singh were present on the occasion.
In his brief address, President of the Club Ashwini Kumar paid glowing tributes to Sanjay Kishore Gupta after handing over the cheque.
Ashwini Kumar also appealed to the members of the media fraternity to strictly follow traffic rules and take necessary precautions while driving. He urged the motorists to wear crash helmets and belts while driving.
General Secretary Zorawar Singh Jamwal said the Press Club of Jammu had started this accidental insurance scheme in 2003 to cover all the journalist members of the Club. Initially, this scheme was introduced providing coverage of Rs. one lac. But from financial year 2009, the amount of coverage had been raised from Rs. one lac to Rs. 2 lac.
