JAMMU, July 2: 9th meeting of UT level Committee for wood based industries of Jammu region was conducted by Dr Mohit Gera, J&K Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (PCCF), here today.
The Committee considered and approved 20 cases for issuance of fresh license for setting up of Primary Wood based Industry (Saw Mill Units), two cases for issuance of license for setting up of Primary Wood based Industry (Plywood/Veneer Units) and 10 cases for issuance of fresh license for setting up of Secondary Wood based Industry (Furniture/Joinery Mills) as per the provision of SRO 103 of 2012, J&K Wood based (Saw Mills, Veneer and Plywood) Industries (Registration and Regulation) Rules, 2012.
The approval for issuance of license for setting up of Wood based Industries shall facilitate the initiative of the Government in promotion of industries and for providing local employment generation in the Union Territory in general and Jammu region in particular.
During the meeting, the PCCF reiterated the requirement of maintenance of a database of timber and other raw material utilized by each wood based industrial unit established and emphasised on the need for assessment of quantity of different raw material requirement for wood based industrial units which may be sustainably harvested from trees outside forest areas in the J&K.
He also impressed upon the need to fast tracking the study by Forest Survey of India on availability of wood on the farm land of J&K.
The meeting was attended by all the members of the Committee including Sanjay Kumar Sinha, Additional Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Central), Vasu Yadav, (MD J&K Forest Development Corporation), Karma Zimpa Bhutia, I/c Integrated Regional Office Jammu, MOEF and CC, GoI, K. Ramesh Kumar, Chief Conservator of Forests Jammu and Member Secretary SLC, Jammu, Shally Ranjan, Chief Conservator of Forests (Settlement and Demarcation) J&K, Irfan Ali Shah, Conservator of Forests, Working Plan Circle, J&K and Ved Prakash, Joint Director Industries and Commerce Jammu.
