JAMMU, Apr 22: PCC spokesperson Ravinder Sharma-(MLC) has taken strong exception to the statement of NC Provincial President Davender Singh Rana-(MLC) questioning the strength of the Congress party in the state and said that he needs to refresh his memory that it was Congress party which had two-third majority when power was handed over to Sheikh Mohammed Abdullah in 1975, keeping in view the larger interests of the people of the State and the nation.
It is unfortunate that Mr. Rana is not aware of the history of the Congress party, which always played a crucial role in the State in order to wean away the forces from the path of separatism and secessionism to strengthen mainstream politics and democracy in the State. The Congress party always promoted secular forces in the State and for this purpose entered into alliance, from time to time, to provide democratic Governments in the State.
It is with this responsibility that Congress entered into present coalition with NC, which was in wilderness from the year 2002 to 2008. The present coalition would last its full term, but the leadership of the coalition constituents would take appropriate decision regarding this as it suits them.
Mr Sharma said that the reaction of the NC leader is not only uncalled for but an undue offence to the right of each coalition partner to assert its position, in view of the mood of the people in the State, to make Congress a major political force to lead the State after the 2014 Assembly elections. It is certainly the people who are the ultimate masters in the democracy, he added.
