JAMMU, Oct 12: Pradesh Congress Committee today strongly took up the issues of refugees of 1947, 1965 and 1971 from PoK and West Pakistan besides Chhmab displaced persons with the visiting Union Home Minister, Sushil Kumar Shinde.
A delegation of the PCC led by senior vice president, Dharam Paul Sharma Ex-MP, vice president Th Hari Singh, vice chairman OBC Board Kuldip Raj Verma, president Pradesh Congress Mahila wing Indu Pawar (MLA), State president INTUC Shiv Kumar Sharma, Former Ministers Mula Ram, Ch Gharu Ram and Lal Mohd Sabir met the Home Minister at State guest house here today and discussed the issues of refugees with him. They stressed upon the Union Minister for the comprehensive settlement of the refugees’ issue once for all.
The Congress leaders also discussed the issues of strengthening of Panchayats in the State, development of border areas and the reservation for the OBC people. They pointed out that refugees living in various parts of Jammu region were facing lot of hardships and struggling for their legitimate demands for the last over six decades. They also referred to PCC delegation’s meeting with UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and demanded one time settlement of different categories of refugees.
They also demanded better road connectivity in border areas, drinking water facilities, better electric supply and education facilities. They also stressed for special recruitment drive for the border area youth of Jammu belt in the para-military forces and projected the issue of compensation to the border farmers. The delegation also raised the issue of providing 27 % reservation to the OBCs in the State. The PCC strongly demanded strengthening of Panchayati Raj system in the State under the provisions of 73rd Amendment in the Panchayati Raj Act prevailing all over the country.
Meanwhile, another delegation of refugee leaders led by senior Congress leader and former Minister Manjit Singh met the Home Minister here today and took up the issues of the refugees from PoK, West Pakistan and Chhamb. Noted refugee leaders Labba Ram Gandhi, Rajiv Chuni, Capt Yudhvir Singh, Rashpal Singh Chib and Capt Shiv Ram also accompanied.
During meeting these leaders also presented memorandum to the Home Minister and discussed their issues in detail. They demanded one time settlement of their pending issues. The Union Home Minister listened to their issues patiently and assured positive results shortly.
