This has reference to the news item ‘Sports provides platform to exhibit talent’ DE Oct 11.
There is no doubt that Sports provide platform for young people to display their talent, but they can display that only when they are provided opportunities and proper infrastructure. One can say with a heavy heart that proper Sports infrastructure hardly exists in this part of the country. Sports is not receiving much thrust as it should have keeping in view the changes taking place in this sector throughout the world. Mere organising ritual tournaments here and there won’t take the sports in the State to new heights. First of all, the State needs a Comprehensive Sports Policy which may take care of infrastructure, coaching, sponsorship, and other related issues.
The Sports sector has to be run in a professional manner in which their is accountability and transparency.
Selection of deserving candidates should be the criteria. There should be no scope for nepotism and favoritism.
Otherwise, the potential talent will remain hidden and the purpose of sports will get defeated.
