PCC, BJP, others pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi, Shastri

JAMMU, Oct 2:  Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), BJP  and several other organizations paid rich tributes to great leaders- Mahatma Gandhi and  Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversaries by organizing various functions across the State today. On this occasion, many organizations also launched cleanliness drive at various places.
Congress party organised a grand function in this connection at Kunjwani here today which was attended by prominent leaders of  PCC, DCC and frontal organizations under the chairmanship of  PCC chief GA Mir. Senior functionaries of PCC and other prominent leader paid floral tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. Floral tributes were also paid to former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri ji on his birth anniversary today.
Addressing the gathering PCC chief GA Mir said that the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is relevant for all times to come and even more relevant today when an atmosphere of conflicts and violence prevails in different parts of the world. He said that Mahatma Gandhi led the nation to freedom through non-violence against the mighty British rulers.  He said Gandhi Ji’s  philosophy is the only way out to sort out and resolve the conflicts and end violence in the world and the entire world should learn lesson from the philosophy and ideology of Mahatma Gandhi for mutual Co-Existence of people of different faiths and interests.
He also remembered the contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri  and paid rich tributes to him for his  outstanding role in the freedom struggle and  later in different capacities especially as Prime Minister. He said Shastri Ji was symbol of honesty, integrity  and dedication towards the nation
Senior vice president of PCC Sham Lal Sharma, former ministers Mula Ram,  Raman Bhalla, Aiyaz  Khan, Jugal Kishore (MLC) and Vikram Malhotra also spoke on the occasion.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Jahangir Mir, Kanta Bhan, Ravinder Sharma, Rajnish Sharma, Yogesh Sawhney, Shabir Khan, Manjit Singh, SS Channi, Manmohan Singh, Ch Shah Nawaz,  Balbir Singh, Indu Pawar, Gurbachan Kumari  Rana, GL Chalotra,  Shiv Dev Singh, Anil Chopra, Parkash Sharma, Balwider Singh Sambyal, Pranav Shagotra (PYC), Neeraj Kundan (NSUI), YB Sharma, KL Gupta, Shashi Sharma, Pankaj Dogra, Neeraj Gupta, Kulbir Singh Pathania, Prof Gharu Ram (Ex-MLA),  Gurdarshan Singh, Jai Singh, Gajan Singh, Dr RK Khajuria, Uttam Singh, Satish Sharma, Dwarka Choudhary and Kulbushan Sharma.
Congress workers in a meeting held at Nagrota under the leadership of     Shiv Dev Singh also paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi. BCC Dansal president R R Sharma also spoke on the occasion. Youth Congress Batote (Ramban) unit led by Shahrukh Bhatti organised a programme to pay tributes to Father of the Nation.
In Srinagar, PCC organised a function under the leadership of Ghulam Nabi Monga, MLC and paid tributes to Gandhiji and former Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji. Monga recalled the sacrifices of Mahatma Gandhi and described him as great leader of his time in the world.  Several party functionaries including Farooq Andrabi, Abdul Ghani Khan, Irfan Nazqib, Dr Sayed Ahmed and Imtiaz Ahmed Khan were also present.
District president Kathua Subash Gupta along with DCC members held a function at district headquarters and paid floral tributes to Gandhi Ji and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary.
Paying tributes to Gandhiji in a function held at Satwari Chowk, Speaker J&K Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta, Forest Minister Ch Lal Singh and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma paid floral tributes  to Gandhiji. MLA Jammu West Sat Sharma and SDM Sonu Pargal were also present on the occasion.
To commemorate Gandhi Jayanti and 2nd anniversary of the launch of Swachh Bharat Mission, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh today launched cleanliness drive in Gandhi Nagar. The motive of the drive was to aware the general masses about the importance of maintaining cleanliness in their surroundings to make the city clean and green.
Dr Singh administered oath to the people present and appealed for their active participation in the   implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission. He also urged them to devote at least 100 hours in a year for achieving the goal of ”Clean India Mission”.
While joining the world to pay tributes to apostle of Peace Mahatma Gandhi, the Gandhi Global Family (GGF), J&K, a UN-DPI organization, celebrated 147th birth anniversary of father of nation along with 112th birth anniversary of 2nd Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri  here today.
In this connection a large function was  organized at historic Dewan-e-Aam, Mubarak Mandi  in collaboration with various  government and private schools of Jammu city and civil society organizations under the aegis of United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), New Delhi.
Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Dr Pawan Kotwal in his address said that Mahatma Gandhi’s ideology is becoming more and more relevant in the present times and there is urgent need to follow his principles which is the key to world peace. He also underlined the contributions of Lal Bahadur Shastri.
Divisional Commissioner  honoured Rohit Khajuria, Executive Director Mubarak Mandi Complex Heritage Society, Dinesh Gupta, Regional Secretary Red Cross, Jammu, Surinder Gupta and Sidharth Mehta both social activists with UN-India Connect Pin for their exemplary service towards the society.
Earlier, in his address, Padmashri SP Varma, president GGF-J&K, appraised the gathering regarding the activities under taken and future plans of Gandhi Global Family.
In connection with the celebration of birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi  and culmination of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, Minister for Industries Chander Parkash Ganga and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma conducted cleanliness drive at Sarore in district samba. He appealed to the people, students and Govt employees to participate in the this Abhiyan.
Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation at a simple but impressive function held at Kathua to mark birth anniversary of  Mahatma Gandhi.
A large number of people attended the function and paid tributes to the father of nation.
Lal Singh said that Mahatma Gandhi was  an apostle of peace and the real architect of  freedom movement in India. He said that Gandhi ji  led the feedom movement by following the path of non-violence and peace.    The minister said that it is the duty of every citizen of the country to remember “Mahatma Gandhi” on his birth anniversary as a mark of respect to such a towering personality.
On the occasion of Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri a well was got renovated from CDF Fund by Ramesh Arora MLC at the cost of Rs 1.80 lakh at Domana. A large function was organized by local residents of Domana.
On the Gandhi Jayanti, a mega programme was organised on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by District Administration Reasi. MoS for Finance, Planning, Law  Ajay Nanda  was the chief guest. DC Reasi Ravinder Kumar was the guest of honour. Besides cleanliness drive, cultural and Nukad programme for crating awareness among the masses were also presented by the students of various schools. Staff from various departments participated in the programme.
Senior BJP leader  Yudhvir Sethi launched cleanliness drive on Gandhi Jayanti at Prem Nagar, Ward No. 7 here today. Several BJP activists and JMC employees attended the programme.
National Panthers Party activists celebrated birthday of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi with a great hope that the people of India and the world shall follow the principles of non-violence, unity, brotherhood and strive for world peace and universal brotherhood.
Addressing the gathering Bhim Singh appealed the political activists and religious preachers all over the world to follow the great ethos which was unleashed by Mahatma Buddha more than 2000 years back with a message of peace, non-violence and human dignity. This message was religiously followed by the Indian leaders including Mahatma Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri and other Indian leaders who pursued the path of preserving human dignity, love and mutual growth. NPP also passed a resolution urging India,  Pakistan and China to work together, in cooperation for peaceful co-existence as they can contribute a lot towards world peace.
State unit of NCP led by Thakur Randhir Singh, former minister celebrated Gandhi Jayanti by organizing a function. The state NCP chief while paying tributes said that the best tributes to the father of the Nation would be to wage a fight against corruption which has become cancer in out society. The NCP members also recalled services of Lal Bahadur Shastri and paid him floral tributes.
With an aim to aware the general public about the importance of cleanliness, District Administration Udhampur today organized a mega awareness campaign on “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” to mark the second anniversary of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan
Rural Development Department, District Health Society, Cyclist Association, Civil Society members and NGOs besides local people actively participated in the event to make it a success.
DC, Udhampur Niraj Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion who formally flagged off the Cyclotron rally and   joined other participants  with a motive to spread the message of Swachh Bharat  among the general public of the Udhampur district.
On Ghandhi Jayanti, the day on which Prime Minister Narendra Modi started one of his most ambitious programe towards clean India, Bhaderwah unit of Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) in presence of its District president  Manjeet Razdan organized a cleanliness drive in Bhaderwah town under ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ here today.
The drive in which dozens of BJP workers and office bearers participated was aimed at to inculcate sense of cleanliness among all the sections of society.
BJP workers gathered at Lakshmi Narayan Temple this morning and under the leadership of  Razdan started a cleanliness drive in Vasuki Dera, Mohallah Khakhal, Seri Bazaar and in Ganpat Market localities of Bhaderwah town.
While remembering the Father of Nation on his 147th birth anniversary, District Congress Committee (DCC) Doda in presence of MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta paid rich tributes to Mahatma Gandhi in a function organized at Bhaderwah on Sunday.
The programme in which dozens of Congress workers and office bearers participated was held under the chairmanship of District vice president Mohd Saleem Wani where MLC Naresh Kumar Gupta was the cheif guest.
The participants observe two minute silence in respect of the father of nation and prayed for the peace of his soul.
At Poonch a cleanliness drive was launched under the leadership of MLA Shah Mohd Tantray. The rally was started from Parade Ground Poonch and was culminated at District Hospital Poonch. DC, ADC Ex MCP and DPO also participated in the programme.
BVP Swami Vivekanand branch in collaboration with JMC also launched cleanliness drive at Gole Market Jammu in which more than 100 volunteers participated.
JK Bank Branch Bhaderwah organised financial literacy camp while paying tributes to Gandhi ji today.The camp was held at Delian village which was attended by large number of people. Branch Manager Khurshid Ahmed   Akhoon educated the people about various schemes launched by Govt.
Around 300 men from DPL Jammu participated in the Shram Dhaan (cleanliness drive) on the occasion of  Gandhi Jayanti  and birth anniversary of Lal Bhadhur Shastri, along with SSP Jammu Dr Sunil Gupta  and Gourav Mahajan DySP DAR and other officers of DPL Jammu.
On this occasion the SSP also laid foundation stone of the toilets for jawans and planted a tree at ‘Shahid Gulbadan Singh (Dy SP) Park’ at the entrance of DPL Jammu and laid stress on the cleanliness of the surroundings and sustainable developments of the environment.
A Medical-cum-diagnostic camp was organised at Swami Vivekananda Medical Mission Charitable Hospital Ambphalla Jammu to mark Gandhi Jayanti. The camp was inaugurated by former MoD Defence Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, president of the Mission in presence of members of Management Committee.
Dr Sushil Sharma, HOD  Cardiology GMC Jammu and his team including Dr Arvind Kohli rendered their services during the camp. About 300 patients were attended during the camp. Free tests facility was also provided to the people.
Meanwhile, BJP activists belonging to different Panchayats of  Nagrota Vidhan Sabha today paid tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri on their birth anniversary. They remembered the contributions of these leaders in the freedom movement. Later, the party workers held a cleanliness drive in the areas nearby Kol Kandoli Mata temple and   main bazaars of Nagrota.
To celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and the birth anniversary of late Prime Minister of India, Lal Bahadur Shastri, a function was organized at Udhampur by the Congress activists under the leadership of State secretary of Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), Sumeet Magotra. The party leaders showered flowers on the pictures of Gandhiji and Shahstriji and recalled their services rendered to the Nation. While addressing the gathering, Magotra asked the workers to work for the integration of the country.
Gandhi Jayanti was celebrated in Gandhi Bhawan, Jammu jointly by Gandhi Bhawan Committee and Gandhi Sewa Sadan. President, Gandhi Bhawan, Dr Gautam Mengi, was present on the occasion. Praveena Jha, Principal, SNS School Amar Villa, presented an audio visual talk on the life and teachings of Mahatma Gandhi. Students of various schools also presented talks on the life of Mahatma Gandhi. Meanwhile, Gandhi Sewa Sadan announced 20% rebate on sale of Khadi in Gandhi Sewa Sadan shops.
On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Dr Abdul Kabir Dar, Director General, Indian Systems of Medicine, J&K, Jammu today started the Swachhta Abhiyan from Government Ayurvedic Hospital, Jammu. Stating that cleanliness is the key to healthy life, Dr Dar asked all the institutions of ISM in the State to start Swachhta Abhiyan in their respective institutions.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Jammu (SKUAST-J) organized Swachhata Campaign at organic village Talwara of Reasi district in which a large number of farmers/officials of the area participated. Dr Banarsi Lal, Incharge (Head), KVK, Reasi, gave a detailed view on Swachhata Campaign and appealed everyone to become a part of this national campaign and make their efforts to clean their homes and surroundings clean.
On the eve of Gandhi Jayanti, a cleanliness drive was organized by the Dulhasti Power Station. The drive was carried out by NHPC employees and CISF personnel in and around office complexes and residential colonies of Dulhasti Power Station. Harish Bulchandnai, Chief Engineer (C), Suresh Kumar, Chief Engineer (E), Satish Kumar Parihar, Senior Manager (Law)also took part in the drive.
To commemorate the birth anniversary of Lal Bahadur Shastri, J&K Freedom Fighters’ Association held a function at Bal Niketan, Ved Mandir Ambphalla, Jammu, under the leadership of Ved Gandotra. National Conference leader, K D Singh, was the chief guest, who in his address threw light on the life of Shastri ji.
Glowing tributes were paid to Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary by the Deputy CEO, Santosh Saraf and staff of J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board, Division Office, Jammu. Addresing the gathering, Saraf highlighted many facets of the legacy and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi, which continue to inspire future generations.
Aadarsh Bhartiya Samaj, a social organization, celebrated ‘Gandhi Jayanti’ and overview the campaign “Aadarsh Swachh Gaon and Paryavaran Abhiyan” already started by ABS with the message ‘Swachh Gaon Swachh Ghar, Swachh Shahar Swachh Nagar’ under the guidance of Col (Retd) R K Sharma, chairman and Daljeet Singh, president, ABS. On the occasion, Jasreen Kour, Richa and Prachi Raina presented their views and read the poems on the topic ‘Gandhi Ji and Swachhata’.
A function to pay tributes to Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri was also organized by Bhartiya Lok Sangeet Kala Sansthan at its office compound, Durga Bhawan, Janipur, Jammu. The programme commenced with songs “Vaishnav jan too tayne Khaiye”, “Bolo jai jai kar Gandhi ji ki”, “Aao aao sab jawano – jai Jawan  Jai Kisan”, “Pyari Ganga ae saddi himayala  vishal dharti ae saddi”.
Welfare Society, Guru Nanak Nagar, Jammu today paid rich tributes to the Father of the Nation and the late Prime Minister India, Lal Bahadur Shastri, on their birth anniversary. Balwinder Singh Rinku, president of the society, AS Khera, chairman cum legal advisor and other office bearers were present on the occasion.
