JAMMU, Dec 9: On second day of two-day pen-down strike call of All J&K Patwar Associa-tion, Jammu Province, strong protests were held today at all district headquarters by Patwaries and Girdawars.
In the protest demonstrations at district headquarter Jammu, the speakers took strong notice of non-fulfillment of long pending demands of the association and raised slogans in support of their demands.
“We had already discussed issues with the Government, but no significant development has been made in this regard. The field functionaries are working without salaries for the last 18 months. Even, the service books of Patwaris and Girdawars are not properly maintained,” said Amjad Khan, district president of the association and urged the Government to look into the matter seriously and redress their demands at the earliest.
In Kathua, the protesting patwaries and girdawars submitted a memorandum of their demands to the Government. The demands highlighted in the memorandum include release of pending salaries, stipend for one and a half year in favour of Patwaris, bringing Patwar halqas at par with Panchayat Halqas, maintenance of service books of BOPEE, conducting of DPC of qualified Girdawars who are already discharging their duties as Naib Tehsildars and appointment of Patwaris who have qualified the PSC as Naib tehsildars.
The other demands were filling up of posts of Naib Tehsildars among the qualified Girdawars who have qualified the PSC, sanctioning of posts of Circle Girdawars in newly created administrative units, revenue generated by stamp duty be deposited in Revenue head 0029, restoration of 20 percent share to Patwari from the revenue generated by him, filling up of the posts of trained staff and absorption of settlement assistants as Patwaris.
The Association warned the Government that in case of further delay it will be forced to intensify agitation.
