JAMMU, Dec 24: The CT Scan machine in Emergency Block of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu is lying non-functional for last couple of days due to which patients, particularly accident victims are suffering badly.
According to official sources, hundreds of patients including accident victims reach Emergency Block of GMC Jammu for treatment and some of them have to undergo CT Scan immediately to diagnose internal injury if any so that they can be provided timely and adequate treatment but as the CT Scan machine of Emergency Block is not in working condition for last about one week, these patients are not getting timely treatment.
They said that during day hours, the cases of accident victims and other emergency cases are being sent to CT Scan machine of OPD Block where they are undergoing test on priority but those which reach the GMC Jammu in evening hours are not getting diagnostic facility of CT Scan as the machine of OPD block is not run beyond office hours i.e. 4 PM.
Sources said though PPP mode CT Scan machine is there but poor cannot afford to undergo test there as the charges are comparatively high if compared with Government CT Scan machine where a CT Scan study costs between Rs 900 to Rs 1500 while the cost of the same is almost double in the private CT Scan centres.
They said that while poor patients are suffering badly due to non-functioning of the CT Scan machine of Emergency Block, the administration of the Hospital are sleeping over the issue.
When contacted, Medical Superintendent of GMC Jammu, Dr Dara Singh said there is some fault in the machine and some parts need to be replaced for which the company officials were called yesterday and today also. He said while two spare parts are to be brought from Mumbai, one has to be brought from Germany.
“Today, we have placed orders for the spare parts and as soon as the engineers get spare parts, the faulty parts will be replaced with new ones and the machine will be in order,” he said, adding it will take at least 5- 6 days to make the CT Scan machine functional .
