Charge sheet produced against matrimonial cheat

JAMMU, Dec 24: Crime Branch Jammu today produced charge sheet against the cheat, who is accused of enticing the victim through a matrimonial website on the pretext of wedding and then duping her of hard earned money.
The accused- namely Vikram Singh Barnala son of Ramesh Chander Barnala of New Delhi, was booked in case FIR number 24/2018, under section 420,465,467,468,471 RPC. The case was filed on the written complaint by the victim who got a marriage proposal from the accused through matrimonial website www.shaadi.com .
As per the complaint, the accused introduced himself as a businessman from London whose wife had died in a road accident. He wanted to settle in India. Both the complainant and the accused shared email addresses and contact numbers. The accused told the complainant that he would be coming to India for a meeting with some business clients and assured her to meet her parents for the marriage proposal. The complainant was told by the accused that he would be sending her a gift pack of gold Jewellery, Apple iPhone, laptop, perfume, and foreign currency through courier service as a token of love & tradition for which complainant was required to pay a meager amount of custom duty.
Trusting the accused, the complainant initially transferred first installment of money in one of the account numbers of the fraudster purportedly as custom duty. However on being demanded more money for release of the gift pack, the complainant sensed herself being defrauded.
On receipt of the complaint, a preliminary verification was initiated which substantiated the allegations against the defrauder and accordingly the instant case was registered. During the course of investigation evidence was collected which proved the allegations of cheating committed by accused and defrauding the complainant of her money. The charge-sheet against accused was produced in the Sub-Judge Court, Jammu.
