Case of gross negligence surfaces at DH

KISHTWAR, Aug 18: Amid the Coronavirus pandemic crisis, a case of gross negligence at District Hospital here has come to light.
As per reports, several patients admitted in the District Hospital Kishtwar were allegedly given expired glucose bottles.
Fortunately, the attendants of the patients did not use these bottles and demanded action against the hospital authorities for putting the life of patients at risk.
The District Hospital Kishwtar has been using glucose past their expiration date, due to the reason best known to the hospital authorities.
The attendant of a patient raised an alarm about the expiration date of the glucose bottles that were given to his patient admitted in Gyne ward of the District Hospital Kishtwar.
When enquired, several other patients admitted in the same ward were also given the same expired lot. Though, later staff on duty changed the same but has left many questions unanswered.
While talking to media persons, one of the attendants of the patient alleged that the hospital authorities had given them expired glucose bottles and had put the life of their dear ones at grave risk.
“Who will be held responsible, if these expired glucose bottles reacted upon a patient”, he questioned.
He has appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha and Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar to conduct probe into the incident.
However, why the expired glucose fell in the hospital ward is the subject of an investigation. There seems to be two levels of negligence on the whole issue. One was that the incharge did not pay enough attention and the other was that the glucose elevator was not vigilant enough.
“A patient can suffer many problems if an expired glucose is administered to him or her”, a doctor on the condition of anonymity said.
Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Rajinder Singh Tara when contacted said that the expired glucoses were not administered to the patients admitted in the District Hospital Kishtwar.
“An inquiry has been ordered into this matter, which will be conducted by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Kishtwar, who will submit report within two days. Strict action will be taken whosoever will be found guilty”, he added.
