Patient-care suffers during power shutdown at GMC Baramulla

Srinagar, June 30: Patients as well as the attendants at Government Medical College (GMC), Baramulla had to face difficulties following a power shutdown which lasted for more than 5 hours today.
What added to the scheduled power cut in the area by the Power Department was the alleged unpreparedness of the GMC, Baramulla as the attendants said that the hospitals didn’t have any backup plan ready for the day.
An attendant told Excelsior that they including patients faced a lot of trouble as there was no plan in place to provide the electricity during the shutdown.
“Several attendants collapsed as the fans didn’t work along with other machinery at the hospital,” the attendant of a patient from the post-operative ward said.
He also said that also several critical equipments were lying defunct during the power shutdown. “It is like the officials were not aware of the scheduled power shutdown,” he said.
Principal GMC, Baramulla, Dr Ruby Reshi, however, told Excelsior that the patient care was not affected during the hours of power shutdown as they were well prepared.
“We were already informed about the power shutdown today and we had kept a backup plan ready; some people are creating unnecessary scare, things were well managed by the hospital,” she said.
