UDHAMPUR, May 31: MLA Udhampur East, Ranbir Singh Pathania, today inaugurated a new water supply scheme for Shri Kali Mata Gaushala, Thill Roun, Udhampur.
The project represents a successful model of ‘Jan Bhagidari’ (public participation), wherein contributions from local donors, savings of the Gaushala management committee, and the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) of the MLA were pooled together to provide a reliable source of clean and potable drinking water for the cattle/cows housed in the Gaushala.
During his visit, Pathania reviewed the facilities available for the care, shelter, and welfare of cattle. He interacted with members of the management committee, volunteers, and local residents associated with the institution and appreciated their dedicated efforts in serving abandoned, stray, and destitute cattle.
MLA inspected the cattle sheds, fodder arrangements, drinking water facilities, sanitation measures, and overall infrastructure of the Gaushala. He took stock of the challenges being faced by the management and assured them of all possible support in addressing genuine requirements for the smooth functioning and expansion of the institution.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Pathania observed that the cow has historically occupied an important place in India’s agrarian economy, rural life, and cultural traditions. Expressing concern over certain incidents relating to cow slaughter and bovine smuggling reported from different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, he called for a comprehensive and effective strategy to curb such activities.
Advocating stronger surveillance mechanisms, Pathania called for the installation of CCTV cameras on National Highways as well as important link roads across Jammu and Kashmir. He stated that such a network would not only help prevent illegal transportation of bovines and incidents of cow slaughter but would also strengthen efforts to curb drug trafficking and other terror-related & criminal activities.
The MLA also inspected the road leading to the Gaushala and observed that some repair work recently executed by the Public Works Department appeared compromised at certain locations.
Prominent among those present on the occasion, included President of Kali Mata Gaushala, Samar Singh, Suresh Verma, Raghubir Singh, Ashok Padha, trustees, Retd. ZEO Ranjan Kishore, Ranjana Kumari, Makhana Kumari, Rhit, Rabinder, Saurav and other members of the Gaushala Management Committee, social workers, and a galaxy of local residents.
