JAMMU, May 7: Bhagwan Parshuram Jayanti was celebrated with great enthusiasm and religious fervor across the region today.
The special functions were organized to celebrate Parshuram Jayanti which falls on Akshay Tritiya every year. In this connection, Shobha yatras were also taken out to mark the occasion at several places.

The main function in this connection was held at Brahaman Sabha, Parade Ground Jammu in which a large number of people participated. Many children and women also attended this religious programme. The program commenced with Havan Yagaya and special Pooja of Bhagwan Parshuram in the morning.
A ‘Yagopavit’ ceremony was also held in which a large number of youth clad in traditional Brahman’s dress- ‘Dhoti- Kurta’, participated. They were offered Yagyopavit by the religious scholars amidst chanting of Vedic Mantras.
President Brahman Sabha, Ved Parkash Shaerma and all the office bearers were also present on the occasion. It was followed by a community Langar.
Swami Hari Chaitnya Puri Ji, who was the chief guest on the occasion, delivered sermons and also educated the youth and children besides others about the life and sacrifices of great Guru Parshuram. He also educated the youth on Dharma and Karma and said that peace, love and brotherhood should be the ultimate goal of every individual.
Meanwhile, reports from various other districts and sub divisions said that similar functions were organized by Sanatan Dharma Sabhas and other social and religious organizations at Poonch, Kathua, Billawar, Udhampur, Katra, Reasi and other parts of the region. Shobha Yatras were also taken out at many places to mark the day.
