Parliament nod to Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill

NEW DELHI: A Bill that removes the prevailing policy for detention of children till they complete elementary education got the nod of Parliament on Thursday.

The Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Bill, 2019, moved by Minister for Human resource development Prakash Jawadekar was approved by the Rajya Sabha by a voice vote. The Left  parties walked out of the Hosue in protest against the Bill. The Bill has already been passed in the Lok Sabha.

With the approval by the Rajya Sabha, it has now got the nod of Parliament. The Bill seeks to amend the Right of children to free and compulsory Education Act, 2009. The Right of children to free and  compulsory Education Act, 2009 prohibits detention of children till they complete elementary education i.e., class 8. (AGENCIES)
