Parkash Divas of Guru Hargobind Singh Ji celebrated with religious fervour, gaiety

Devotees paying obeisance to Guru Hargobind Singh Ji Maharaj at Gurudwara Chatti Padshai, Talab Tillo on Friday. —Excelsior/Rakesh

JAMMU, July 5: The 418th Parkash Divas of 6th Sikh Guru, Guru Hargobind Singh Ji Maharaj was celebrated with traditional religious fervour and gaiety in the Jammu region today.
In this connection a grand function was organized by District Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee (DGPC) Jammu at Gurudwara Chatti Padshai, Talab Tillo. Thousands of Sikh devotees including men, women and children attended the function and paid their obeisance to Guru Maharaj.
Giani Tinder Pal Ji from Punjab threw light on life history and teachings of Guru Maharaj. Shabad Kirtan was also held by Ragi Jathas from Darbar Sahib Punjab and the State.
On the occasion Chabeels were also established to serve Sharbat to people.
Giani Ji said that Guru Hargobind Singh Ji was the only Sikh Guru who visited J&K including Jammu, Rajouri, Nowshera, Srinagar and Baramulla.
He said the Gurudwara Chatti Padshai Jammu and Gurudwara Chatti Padshai Rainawari Srinagar are on his name.
He said the Sikh Guru’s have preached humanism, brotherhood and they fought throughout their lives against the tyrant rulers.
Guru Ka Langer was also organized on the occasion and the devotees were served the Prashad.
The DGPC president Sardar Dilip Singh and its general secretary Sardar Mohan Singh also spoke on the occasion and urged the Government to solve the problems of the Sikh community in the State.
Minister of Planning Ajay Kumar Sadhotra and provincial president NC, Devender Singh Rana also participated in the function and paid their respects to great Guru.
Mr Sadhotra while addressing the Sangat dwelt on the life and teachings of Guru Hargobind Singhji saying that great Gurus preached about the building of a harmonious society based on love, compassion and mutual co-existence. The spirit of this eternal message holds relevance now more than ever before as intolerance and greed was spreading tentacles and eating up the vitals of social fabric, he added.
Mr Sadhotra highlighted the valour of Guru Hargobindji and said the path shown by him will continue to guide the mankind and help in making this world a better place to live in.
Speaking on the occasion, Devender Singh Rana referred to valour and far sight of Guru Hargobind Singhji and said that his spiritual as well as temporal spirit shall remain a guiding principle for working towards a just society based on equality, justice and compassion.
A resolution was also passed on the occasion which among other things demanded Minority Commission report to be implemented in J&K, Punjabi be taught in all schools of the State, chair of 10th Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji Maharaj be established in Jammu University, five percent quota be given to Sikhs in professional education and Government jobs, the Inquiry Commission report of 1989 anti Sikh riots be implemented, University road be named after Guru Gobind Singh Ji, problems of refugees of 1947 be settled with their permanent settlement and Punjabi teachers be appointed in all schools.
On the occasion National Sikh Front (NSF) led by Virenderjit Singh held a signature campaign against the Sajjan Kumar.
The Gurpurab of Guru Hargobind Singh Ji Maharaj was also celebrated at Gurudwara Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib at Guru Tegh Bahadur Nagar, Omara Morh, Udhampur.
In this connection a grand function was held in the Gurudwara in which besides different units of Army, 137 Bn CRPF, members of DGPC Udhampur and jawans of Sher-e-Kashmir Police Academy participated.
Speaking on the occasion S Baldev Singh Ji said that Guru Sahib gave his supreme sacrifice only for protection of weaker and helpless sections of the society.
On the occasion Shabad Kirtan was performed by the Hazouri Raghi Jatha Navjot Singh and Iqbal Kour Khalsa, Raghi Daljit Kour Jammu and Bhai Shivdev Singh and others.
