Paramedical exams to be held before Sept 10: SMF

SRINAGAR, Aug 26: After failing to conduct examination of thousands of paramedical students for more than two years, the Jammu and Kashmir State Medical Faculty (SMF) today said the exams would be conducted in the first week of September.
Director Health Jammu, Dr B S Pathania, who is the president of SMF told Excelsior “examination of paramedical students will be held before September 10. We have completed all the formalities for conducting the examination before that date.”
Dr Pathania said the examination was delayed because some students who had failed in their first year tests had knocked the court for conducting supplementary examination for them as SMF has not framed a system to conduct biannual or supplementary exams for those failed students.
“After the court resolved the dispute between the students and the SMF, we framed procedures to conduct the exam in the month of July. But, it was again delayed due to the Amarnath Yatra as Health department employees of Kashmir division were busy with conducting the Yatra,” he said.
He added that the students who wanted supplementary exams will write their exams in November.
Today afternoon hundreds of students protested here in Press Enclave demanding that Government should immediately conduct their exams.
“From last three years we have been forced to stay in first-year of our diploma course, as no examination was conducted by SMF from last three years on one pretext or the other,” the students said.
Over 5000 students undergoing various nursing and paramedical courses in 30 paramedical institutes including 25 private and five government-run Ancillary Medical Schools (AMT) schools have been left in quandary.
