Paracetamol disappears from Pakistani pharmacies

Islamabad, Feb 2: Most commonly prescribed medicine for Covid patients, Paracetamol, has disappeared from many Pakistani pharmacies and is reportedly being sold in the black market.
A Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (Drap) official told Dawn that demand for the painkiller had increased due to the rising number of dengue cases and increased prescription due to the new variant of Covid-19.
Drap, on Tuesday, issued show-cause notices to 15 pharmaceutical companies for failing to manufacture Paracetamol, despite having licenses.
The companies that did not stop manufacturing were directed to boost the supply, the official added, reports Dawn.
Meanwhile, Pakistan recorded 6,047 new Covid-19 cases and 29 deaths in the past 24 hours. The national positivity rate remained at 9.65 per cent. (UNI)
