JAMMU, Feb 12: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has constituted two panels to advise the Wular Conservation & Management Authority (WUCMA) on all the technical matters related to Wular Lake and to prepare the action plan for Waste Management in and around the Lake.
As per an order, the Technical Committee of Experts for Wular Lake shall comprise of Chief Engineer, Irrigation & Flood Control Department, Kashmir, Kalpana Khurana, Director (LS), Delhi Development Authority, Suhas Damodar Khobragade, Scientist “G” Hydro Investigation Division, National Institute of Hydrology, Roorke, Dr R Suresh Kumar, Scientist “F” Wildlife Institute of India, representative of College of Fisheries (SKUAST-Kashmir), Dr Muqbil Burhan, Associate Professor, Business Policy, Strategy & Entrepreneurship Chairperson Srinagar Campus, Indian Institute of Management, Jammu (Livelihood Expert), representative of National Institute of Technology Srinagar (Hydrology Expert), Dr Majid Farooq, Junior Scientist, Department of Ecology, Environment & Remote Sensing (GIS Expert), Dr Junaid N Khan (Professor & Head) Division of Soil & Water Conservation Engineering SKUAST Kashmir, and Dr Nazir Ahmad Changal (Veterinary Assistant Surgeon) Uri Baramulla, Department of Animal Husbandry Kashmir as Members and Coordinator, Water Management, WUCMA as Convenor.
The order said the Technical Committee shall meet at least once every six months and the tenure of the committee shall be for a period of two years and the committee shall be serviced by the WUCMA.
The committee shall advise WUCMA on all technical matters, propose studies to be undertaken and review reports of studies thereof and provide actionable points for scientific management of Wular Lake, and manage any other task to be assigned by the WUCMA related to management of the lake, the order said.
Meanwhile, the Committee for preparation of action plan for Waste Managment in and around Wular Lake shall be headed by DC Bandipora with Projector Coordinator (CAT) WUCMA as Member Secretary and District Panchayat Officer, Bandipora, District Officer, Pollution Control Committee, concerned BDO, concerned CEO, Urban Local Bodies, and any other member as may be co-opted by the committee, as Members.
The order said, that this committee has been tasked with preparing action plan for Waste Management for the 30 villages around Wular Lake, and ensuring implementation of the action plan and it’s monitoring on regular basis.
The committee shall submit its report within 45 days from the date of issuance of the order (related to its constitution) and shall be serviced by the WUCMA, the order said.
