JAMMU, July 24: A high powered committee, constituted by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for selection of new Principal of the Government Medical College Jammu, has raised some objections and sought more documents for the panel of five doctors before taking a decision on recommending name or names to the Government for the appointment.
The post of the GMC Principal was lying vacant since June 30 when Dr Rajinder Singh had retired from the services.
Dr Aniece Choudhary, the senior most Professor has been holding temporary charge of the post of the Principal since the retirement of Dr Singh.
“The Government has asked Dr Choudhary, Head of Department ENT, to hold temporary charge of the post of the GMC Principal for day to day affairs’’, official sources said.
They added that the high powered committee of the Government set up by the Chief Minister for selection of new Principal of the GMC Jammu met in Srinagar yesterday evening and discussed all five names in the panel for appointment of new Principal of the GMC Jammu.
The selection panel headed by Chief Secretary Madhav Lal comprised Principal Secretary Home, B R Sharma, Principal Secretary Finance, Mohammad Iqbal Khanday, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Planning, BB Vyas, Secretary Health, M K Dwivedi and Secretary General Administration Department (GAD) Sheikh Mushtaq.
The panel of five senior most Professors of the GMC Jammu, whose names were being considered for appointment as the Principal, included Dr Aniece Choudhary, HoD ENT, Dr (Mrs) Shashi Gupta, HoD Gynecology, Dr Ganshyam Dev Gupta, HoD Radiology, Dr Rakesh Saraf, HoD Surgery and Dr Zahid Gilani, HoD Pharmacology.
Sources told the Excelsior that the selection panel has sought fresh clearance of the State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) for all five doctors and their Annual Performance Reports (APRs) prior to five years.
The Medical Education Department had put up SVO clearance for five senior most doctors of few months back while APRs had been submitted before the selection panel for the last five years.
Sources said the selection committee wanted to examine APRs of all five doctors in the panel for appointment as the GMC Principal prior to five years also and their latest clearance from the Vigilance Organisation.
The selection panel has asked the Medical Education Department to submit APRs beyond five years and latest Vigilance clearance of all five doctors before it at the earliest so that it could meet again and finalize the names(s) for appointment as the GMC Principal.
Sources said the selection panel has decided to meet immediately after the Medical Education Department puts up the APRs and Vigilance clearance of the doctors before it.
The selection committee would finalize one or two names of the doctors from the panel and submit it to the Chief Minister, sources said, adding that the names would be put up before the Cabinet for appointment of the new Principal.
The Government had set up the selection committee for appointment of the new GMC Principal on June 27, four days before the retirement of Dr Rajinder Singh.
Worthwhile to mention here that this was after a long time that the Government had constituted a high level selection committee for appointments as the GMC Principal. During past several years, the senior most Professors used to be appointed as the Principal. However, according to sources, the name of five senior most Professors of the GMC Jammu would give the selection panel enough choice to select the new Principal, who could improve the conditions in the premier health institute of Jammu region.
