JAMMU, May 11: Shafiq Mir, a senior member of All Jammu and Kashmir Panchayat Conference from Surankote area has appealed to Panchayat members of Jammu and Kashmir to play an active role in their respective villages to control the spread of Covid in rural areas. He said instead of talking to political leaders, the government should facilitate and activate PRIs in rural areas to control this disease.
Expressing his serious concern about the fast spread of disease in rural areas, Shafiq has appealed Jammu and Kashmir Government particularly Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha and Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam to utilise the services of Panchayat members with the active help of Rural Development Department to control the disease in rural areas.
Mir suggested to give responsibility of each ward to the concerned ward member to report the positive case if any, in the ward to the authorities so that he/she is isolated.  The ward member should also be given responsibility for reporting to the law enforcing agencies if anybody violates the Disaster Management Act .
In a statement issued here, Mir said that he has received alarming feedback from the far flung rural areas that the disease has fastly spread in rural areas and people were neither going for testing nor  reporting to the authorities .  He said if the situation is not controlled timely,  it can turn into the worst type of catastrophe and then it will be out of control .
“ The best way for the government is to utilise the PRIs with the active support of the Rural Development Department in rural areas”, he said .
