Panchayat members of block Majalta, Khoon begin hunger strike

UDHAMPUR, Dec 23: Demanding that MGNREGA liabilities be cleared immediately, Panches and Sarpanches of block Majalta and Khoon began chain hunger strike in front of Tehsil office Majalta
The hunger strike was launched under the leadership of Sansar Singh Jamwal, District President and Nirmal Kesar, State youth convenor of All Jammu & Kashmir Panchayat Conference, which is spearheading the agitation over the issue. Rajesh Kumar Sarpanch & Co-ordinator of Majalta Block presided over the hunger strike dharna.
The main demand of Panchayat Conference is to clear Rs 1000 crores liabilities of MGNREGA, which are pending from 2014 to 2019. They are also demanding increase in salary of Panches from Rs 1000/-to Rs 10000/-and for Sarpanches Rs 2500/- to Rs 25000/- per month, implementation of 73rd Amendment Bill in total as implemented in other States /Union Territories in India , release of Rs 25 lakhs annually in every Panchayat in J&K Union Territory, construction of Panchayat Ghar in left over Panchayats and appointment of a Chowkidar in every Panchayat for smooth running the Panchayat Ghar.
The chain hunger strike will continue upto 30th December 2019 and if the Government does not redress grievance by the end of this month, then All J&K Panchayat Conference will start district level chain hunger strike in every districts of Union Territory, announced Sansar Singh Jamwal.
Besides BDC Chairman Dina Nath, large number of Panches and Sarpanches of both the blocks were present in the chain hunger strike. They included Sarpanch Feroz Din, Sarpanch Balwant Raj, Sarpanch Dharm Singh, Sarpanch Babu Ram, Sarpanch Sunita Devi, Sarpanch Poli Devi, Sarpanch Karnail Singh, N/sarpanch Bodh Raj, N/sarpanch Bali, Panch Madhu Bala, Panch Sham Lal, Panch Suresh, Panch Jawala Devi, Panch Kulbushan, Panch Amit Kumar and others.
