Pakistan’s KP Govt amends Hindu Marriage  Act to simplify marriage registration

PESHAWAR, Apr 14:  Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has amended the Hindu Marriage Act 2017 to simplify and streamline the process of registering Hindu marriages at the local level, an official said.
According to the official, under the newly enacted Hindu Marriage (Amendment) Act 2026, members of the Hindu community will now be allowed to appoint marriage registrars at the district level to facilitate the formal registration of marriages.
The amended law introduces changes in Clause 2 of Section 1, including the revision of the nomenclature of “Marriage Registrar”, who will now be appointed under Section 7 of the act.
The amendment also provides that one or more registrars may be appointed in each district to ensure better access and convenience for the Hindu community.
