JAMMU, Oct 1: After a long gap, Pakistan Army resorted to heavy firing and shelling targeting forward Indian posts along the Line of Control (LoC) in Sabjian sector of Poonch district even as reports suggested that two groups of militants were trying to infiltrate into the Indian territory from Sabjian and Digwar sectors of Poonch.
Official reports said Pakistan Army started heavy firing from their forward posts of N Control and D Control targeting four Indian posts in Sabjian sector at 6.40 pm today. Pakistan Army also fired few shells. The Indian side retaliated.
However, there were no casualties or damage on Indian side in the firing, which continued till 9 pm.
Pakistan Army resorted to ceasefire violation in Sabjian sector at 6.40 pm.
“On provocation, we retaliated,” sources said and confirmed that Pakistan Army also fired mortars.”
Reports said that Pakistan Army had also been firing one or two rounds on the Indian positions for the last two days but they suddenly started heavy firing in violation of ceasefire agreement at 7.15 pm today targeting forward Indian positions.
According to reports, two groups of five to six militants were making desperate attempts to infiltrate into this side of the LoC from Sabjian and Digwar sectors in Poonch district under the cover of Pakistan firing. However, they were unable to intrude due to strict surveillance being maintained by Army on the LoC.
“Firing by the Pakistan Army was aimed at facilitating infiltration by the militants ahead of the winter,” sources said but added that Pakistan hasn’t succeeded in its plans. For the past several days, there had been lull on the LoC with no ceasefire violation or infiltration attempt by the militants reports from Pakistan side.
However, with the session of United Nations General Assembly over, Pakistan Army has resumed its unhealthy practices on the LoC by targeting Indian posts and giving cover to the infiltrators.
Sources said that the militants were desperate to sneak into the Indian side as they were under pressure from their commanders and Pakistan Army to enter Jammu and Kashmir to commit some acts. Number of the militants waiting across the LoC was stated to be over 200 but, sources said, two specific groups of five to six militants each were stationed opposite Sabjian and Digwar in Poonch sector awaiting an opportunity to sneak into this side.
Army has already been maintaining very high alert along the LoC to ensure that the militants didn’t get any opportunity to enter into the Indian territory, sources said.
