KISHTWAR, May 13: The hunger strike launched by the workers of Pakal Dul Hydel Power Project in Kishtwar district has entered 4th consecutive day.
The power project workers are sitting on protest dharna and hunger strike at the project site, demanding resolution of their pending demands. They alleged that despite representation to the Project Management, their issues have remained unresolved. The workers alleged that management has started exploiting the workers, rather than solving their genuine and justified issues.
They said that the condition of some of the workers on hunger strike is deteriorating but the authorities have remained unmoved. They said management will be responsible for any mis-happening.
Meanwhile, State Central Labour Union of J&K National Conference, led by Nar Singh and Provincial secretary Deep Mehra expressed serious concern over the issue and condemned the Project Management for not resolving the pending issues of the workers. They alleged that management has indulged in lowering of the designations of the workers and terminated several employees in violation of the Labour laws. Even they failed to deposit EPF of the workers for the last over two years. They demanded that sub contractor must clear the pending wages of the workers. They said district administration must take cognizance of the matter concerning workers’ rights.
