Pak wives of former militants detained on way to Raj Bhavan

SRINAGAR, Sept 28: Police today detained several Pakistani women who are married to former militants after they tried to march towards Raj Bhavan and meet LG Manoj Sinha regarding their issues.
Around 10-12 such women had gone to meet Lieutenant Governor, but they were not allowed moving further after reaching a particular point.
The police stopped the vehicles they were travelling in and were detained and later shifted to Ram Munshi Bagh Police Station in Srinagar.
It is worth to mention that these women have been protesting in the past as well and have held many protest demonstrations inside Press Enclave demanding that they should be given the rights the citizens.
They have been saying that they have not been given documents after they reached Kashmir-and as was promised to them by the then Government. They have been demanding that they should be given citizenship and travel documents to travel to Pakistan and meet their families.
One of the women who had gone to meet the LG said that they had, earlier as well, gone to meet the LG, but they were told to come after few weeks.
She said that they wanted to meet the LG and request him to either send them back to Pakistan or address the issues that they are facing on daily basis. “But the police did not allow us to move further and detained us,” she said.
The women said that they have been seeing worse since the day they stepped into Kashmir.
Pertinent to mention, these women reached Kashmir along with their husbands-who were former militants-in the year 2011 under the Rehabilitation Policy.
Since then, they said, they have not been given with the status of a citizen nor are they being allowed to meet their families residing in different parts of Pakistan.
