Srinagar, Mar 8: The Pakistani wives of former militants who returned to Kashmir under the rehabilitation policy of the Government today said that they want to be deported back to Pakistan along with their husbands.
Addressing media persons here, Saira, who is married to a former militant said that they have been holding protests on and off, “but nothing appears to be happening, and this might be our last media interaction regarding our demands as we have been protesting for long, but nothing has happened. We come and go, nothing changes,” she said.
Earlier, these women held a protest in Srinagar along with their children, following which they met the Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar who, as per these women, assured them that the matter would be taken up with the higher-ups.
“DC sahib told us that he will take up the matter with the higher-ups and will contact us within 3 days, but nothing happened on the ground,” she said.
As a part of their renewed demand, these women said that their husband will go with them if they are deported back to Pakistan because they do not want to destroy their families.
“Those who are divorced can go alone, but those who are living their husbands, it is now our demand that they (husbands) will go with us as we cannot break out families. This is our demand; we can leave our property behind, but we cannot leave our husbands. ” Saira said.
She said that if Pakistan is repeatedly asking the India government about us, “why are not they responding? We were called in by CIK and they asked about us about our issues, it is heartening that they do not know about the plight,” the women said.
Another woman named Bushra said: “People in Pakistan have come to know about our plight. There is a need for letting the people in the world know what is happening with us. When Soumya Sadaf was told that the documents she possesses are not valid, which indicates that we cannot become the citizens of this country in any manner.”
