SRINAGAR, Nov 11: Pakistan troops today violated ceasefire in Uri Sector of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district by firing at Indian forward posts.
A defence spokesman in a statement said: “In yet another unprovoked cease fire violation, Pakistani troops once again indulged in the cease fire violation this morning at 0805 am in Uri Sector…”
He said the Pakistan troops opened fire upon the Indian Army posts with small arms and automatics without any provocation. The spokesman said the Army responded resulting into Pakistani posts stopping the fire.
An Army officer said that the firing by Pakistan continued for about one hour.
A soldier and a girl were killed after Pakistan opened fire in Kamalkote sector of Uri, the Army last week.
Army today recovered three IEDs from the border village of Amrui, Karnah Tehsil along the LoC in the frontier district of Kupwara.
A defence spokesman said: “The vigilant troops saw some suspicious movement near LoC during the early morning hours today at the border village of Amrui, Karnah Tehsil. Area was searched resulting into detection of three IEDs of 5 kg each, smuggled from the PoK by the terrorists for disruption of the elections. Timely action by the alert troops thus foiled the attempt to smuggle IEDs into Kashmir at a time when the Assembly elections are due to take place in Kashmir.”
The spokesman said that General Officer Commanding (GOC) 15 Corps, Lt Gen Subrata Saha, commended the troops for foiling the nefarious designs of the Pakistan based militants to cause violence in Kashmir. “The Corps Commander further emphasized that this was the result of the robust counter infiltration grid along the Line of Control and strong counter terrorist grid in hinterland and Army is committed to ensure a secure environment for the elections”, he added.
